The New York Knicks and Utah Jazz remain linked for a potential Donovan Mitchell trade, but contrary to reports, a deal is far from being made.

Recently rumors spread that Mitchell's trade to Knicks is a “done deal” and both teams are simply working on the finer deals of the blockbuster. The reporter who made the claim even stated that what the Jazz got in return is a massive “haul.”

According to Steve Popper of Newsday, however, there is no truth to the news. In fact, it was the Knicks who rejected the asking price the Jazz gave them for the Mitchell trade.

“… Every source indicates that the Knicks are the most likely landing spot if the Jazz move Mitchell, something that admittedly are open to now. Rumors flew this week that a deal was done but multiple league sources squashed that notion, saying no deal was imminent. But they have spoken and the Knicks turned down the first ask from Utah. Will they engage again? Likely. Who will blink is the question.”

Based on recent reports, it is quite clear that the Knicks are focused on landing Donovan Mitchell. However, unlike what the Minnesota Timberwolves who overpaid for Rudy Gobert, they don't want to give up everything to land the All-Star guard.

Instead, the Knicks are letting the Jazz explore the trade market and see the offers they can get–seemingly confident they can match or surpass any offer Utah will get for Mitchell.

For now fans have to wait and see what happens to Mitchell. Any deal involving him might take some time, especially if the Jazz stick to their guns and maintain the massive asking price.
