Dirk Nowitzki is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever play the game. From his efficiency in shooting, for a man standing 7-feet, to his unstoppable one-legged fadeaway, which helped him win a championship, as well as being named an MVP are only some of the reasons why he is considered an all-time great.

However, one of his former teammates says his patented move is something he stole from him

According to Jerry Stackhouse, the fadeway Nowitzki has made famous was actually his original move, and that the former should be the one getting credit for it. Stackhouse also made a claim, via Jonathan Abrams of Bleacher Report, that back in the 2003-2004 season, he used to beat the Dallas Mavericks star with those moves during practices.

“All those patented Dirk moves, step back, I still say that's my move that he stole from me on my post-up. Everybody is like, “Oh, that's the Dirk move.” That's my post-up move that I was killing him with at that time. … The universe thinks it's the Dirk move, but go back to '04 or '05 and watch my post-ups and see what they look like. See that he just adds a little fade to it.”

This is truly a surprising statement from Stackhouse and something not a lot of people know, should it be true.

Nowitzki has yet to respond to his claim and it will be interesting to find out if he'll confirm or deny it. But one thing that's a certainty is these moves have been a huge part of his successful career, and he deserves a lot of credit as well for mastering it and making it his own.
