The New York Jets managed to shore up some quality depth in the backfield this offseason with the addition of running back Frank Gore. Although the Las Vegas Raiders had initially emerged as front runners to land his services, it seems the sense of familiarity in New York was too good to pass up on.

Gore already has a connection with head coach Adam Gase stemming from their days with the Miami Dolphins. According to Jim Trotter of NFL.com, the veteran admits this had factored into his decision to pick the Jets over the Raiders:

“I got an opportunity to get back with a good friend and a guy I respect, and I'm happy that he wanted me to be on his team … And I'm happy to be around a guy who has done some great things in this league in Le'Veon Bell. That can motivate me. And I can help out the young kid that they just drafted, La'Mical Perine.”

Gore's comments are telling of just how intrigued he was by the talent in the backfield the Jets already possess. He clearly feels he will fit in well between the bona fide workhorse in Bell and the upstart rookie Perine.

The surplus of talent in New York certainly leaves them with no shortage of options to work with. Fortunately, Gore's versatile skill set as a there-down back will allow Gase some flexibility to plug him in anywhere he sees fit. His experience as one of the most decorated running backs in NFL history should help provide a stabilizing factor on offense for the 2020 NFL season.
