The New York Jets are signing running back Frank Gore to a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This comes after head coach Adam Gase—who coached Gore with the Miami Dolphins in 2018—said that he wanted to lessen Le'Veon Bell's workload in 2020.

Gore spent the 2019 campaign with the Buffalo Bills, playing in every game and rushing for 599 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging 3.6 yards per carry in what was the least productive season of his career.

The 36-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (65th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

It didn't take long for Gore to stamp his name among the league's best halfbacks, as he racked up 1,695 yards and eight scores in his sophomore year, earning a trip to to the Pro Bowl.

That marked the first of five Pro Bowl appearances for Gore, who rattled off at least 1,000 yards in eight of nine seasons between 2005 and 2013.

Gore spent a decade with the 49ers before moving on to the Indianapolis Colts in 2015.

Since then, Gore's efficiency has dipped, as he has averaged four yards per attempt just once since leaving San Francisco. That one year came during Gore's one season with the Dolphins in 2018, when he totaled 722 yards on the ground. However, he did not punch in a rushing touchdown.

While Gore's production has clearly declined over the year, he has still been very durable, as he has missed just two games since 2011.

The Jets went 7-9 this past season.
