Since the New York Jets selected former USC standout quarterback Sam Darnold, there has been much praise tossed his way for what he could potentially bring to the table for the franchise.

Hall of Famer and former Jets great Joe Namath was the latest to speak highly of Darnold, stating the franchise is ecstatic to have the 21-year-old in place to possibly become the long-term future under center, according to Steve Politi of NJ.com.

“I'm thinking along the same lines as everyone who has watched Sam carry himself, conduct himself and play since he's been here,” Namath told NJ Advance Media as he headed to the exits just before halftime of the Giants' 22-16 win. “We're absolutely thrilled.”

In his brief time with the team, Darnold has made a strong impression with the way he has handled himself throughout the offseason and even more so on the field in the preseason. He's had his struggles, but he has pushed through them with his even-keel demeanor and approach to the game, which has boasted the high praise towards him. He has looked every bit the part of a composed starter, never showing to be too high or too low at any moment with his sole focus on helping his team put together scoring drives when he is on the field.

Darnold put together another solid showing in limited action in the preseason, completing 8-of-16 passes for 86 yards while throwing a touchdown. He looked under control in the pocket, making better decisions with the ball and even scrambled for a first down on 3rd-and-13 while also completing a 12-yard touchdown passes to wide receiver Terrelle Pryor.

Although there is still no clarity on the decision for the starting quarterback situation, Darnold has another preseason game to strengthen his case to earn that spot for the season opener against the Detroit Lions.
