Quinnen Williams is aiming to become the best defensive tackle in the NFL. A teammate of his on the New York Jets' front four firmly believes Williams will achieve that goal.

In fact, John Franklin-Myers dropped two of the biggest names in the game when discussing the level Williams can reach entering his fifth season in the League.

“Quinnen has the ability and eventually, this year or next year, will pass ‘AD’ (Aaron Donald), Chris Jones,” Franklin-Myers said Sunday. “He’s got the mindset … to say, ‘I’m going to be the first best.’ … Everyone is not counting him to be the best defensive tackle. But he’s going to show it.”

Williams had a breakout season in 2022. The 25-year-old had 12 sacks and 59 QB pressures in 16 games. He was named All-Pro, selected to the Pro Bowl and received one first-place vote as NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

All that success helped Williams land a massive contract extension with the Jets. Williams signed a four-year, $96 million deal ($66 million guaranteed) shortly before training camp to become the second-highest-paid DT in the NFL, behind Donald.

“I definitely feel like I haven’t scratched the surface of what I can become,” Williams said last week.

Franklin-Myers noted that that Williams is special in how he ties up multiple offensive linemen and still makes big plays all over the field.

“If I shoot up the field, he wraps me and runs down the play on the other side,” the defensive end explained. “That’s stuff nobody else does. You can look at any defensive tackle in the NFL and they don’t do that.”

Now it’s up to Williams to show build on last season and take that next step to becoming the No. 1 DT.
