There were reports on Friday by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the New York Jets were attempting to convince Kyle Long to unretire. However, those reports have since been nixed with Long himself responding to the rumors, per Rick Tarsitano of WGN News in Chicago.

Earlier this offseason, Long chose to retire from the Chicago Bears after seven seasons with them. The veteran guard revealed that he walked away from football because he felt he couldn't play at a high level anymore.

Given that, it's hard to believe that Long would suddenly have the belief he can suit up and produce at a Pro Bowl level once again. However, we've seen offensive linemen come out of retirement before. And most recently, it's happened with the Jets.

Just last offseason, New York was able to lure Ryan Kalil out of retirement following his decision to retire from the Carolina Panthers. It's safe to say the decision to sign Kalil didn't go as expected for the Jets.

While Kalil allowed zero sacks, he was only able to make seven starts in his lone season in New York. Kalil would end the season on injured reserve after sustaining a knee injury versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Throughout this offseason, the Jets have made a concerted effort to bolster their offensive line. Altogether, they've signed the likes of Connor McGovern, George Fant, Greg Van Roten, and rookie Mekhi Becton.

Therefore, it would be unclear where Long would fit into New York's revamped offensive line. Nevertheless, Long isn't interested in returning and if he was, it won't be for the Jets.
