The last two weeks have been a roller-coaster for the New York Jets and Todd Bowles. Not only did they lose their newly-dubbed starting quarterback Josh McCown for the rest of the 2017 NFL season, but they also had to bench star defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson for showing up late to a team meeting.

Somehow they still managed to put up a fight against the high-powered New Orleans Saints in Week 15. Although the loss may have officially eliminated them from playoff contention, head coach Todd Bowles is still optimistic about this team moving forward.

By way of ESPN's Rich Cimini:

“Obviously, this is going to turn,” Todd Bowles said. “I believe that we have a good core group. We just need to eliminate some of the mistakes and some of the situational football things, and we'll be OK.

“I don't worry about how many we lost in a row,” he added. “I know how we lost and I know why we lost. We're fighting. As long as we've got fight and we correct the small things, we'll be fine.”

Despite their record, the Jets were one of the most surprising teams given all the veteran talent they had dealt throughout the year. Given their current rebuild, New York has shown plenty of promise this season with one of the most formidable defenses in the league.

Bowles' comments also suggest that the Jets do not plan on letting up anytime soon despite their severe needs at quarterback. Furthermore, even the players have seemingly started to buy into Bowles' optimism for the future.

With a concern at the quarterback position still looming for next season, it will be interesting to see what New York does in the offseason to try to remedy such an ailment. Whether that's plucking a gunslinger from the draft, building from within, or signing a free agent, the rest of the roster looks solid.
