The New York Jets were looking for depth at running back as cut-down day loomed. They got their answer on Sunday, by adding former Philadelphia Eagles back Josh Adams to the practice squad, per ESPN's Field Yates.

Adams is an interesting addition to the practice squad, considering that last season, he led the Eagles in rushing with 511 yards and three touchdowns on 4.6 yards per attempt. At 22 years old, his stock was soaring in Philly after being undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2018. Then, however, Howie Roseman decided to add Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders; Adams became expendable and was later waived on Saturday.

Nobody claimed Adams off of waivers, likely in large part due to an offseason that's been anything but kind to him. He underwent labrum surgery after the 2018 season and finally eased back to practice in May. Though he was a full-go at training camp, other backs took his snaps.

Adams finished the preseason recording 27 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts, equating to 1.7 yards per rush attempt; a far cry from his 2018 performance. With Howard, Sanders, Darren Sproles, and Corey Clement in-fold, and Adams struggling in the preseason, he became an obvious cut.

Though now a practice squad member, Adams could find himself back on a 53-man roster by the end of the season. He's young, powerful, big-bodied (6-foot-2, 225-pounds), and has some NFL experience.

The Jets may find him to be a suitable complement to Le'Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, and Bilal Powell down the line.
