The New York Jets are still eager to add some more talent around young quarterback Zach Wilson, and many expect them to add a playmaking wideout with one of their two first-round picks. Amid links to tantalizing rookies such as Drake London and Chris Olave, the Jets could also look to make a big splash in the trade market, following their unsuccessful pursuit of Tyreek Hill. ESPN's Rich Cimini indicates the Jets are “keeping an eye on” a few star wide receivers who are approaching the end of their rookie deals, including the likes of DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown, and Deebo Samuel.

“The Jets will have to address their wide-receiver issue with a high draft pick … unless another Hill situation arises. A handful of star receivers are entering the final year of their rookie contract, including DK Metcalf (Seattle Seahawks), A.J. Brown (Tennessee Titans) and Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers). The market is blowing up, which might make it harder for their teams to re-sign them… At this point, there's no indication that any of them are available, but the Jets are keeping an eye on the situations, just in case.”

Cimini noted that none of the teams have indicated they'd be willing to trade any of the star players, but as we've seen this offseason, a lot can change in a short amount of time when it comes to contract negotiations. Tyreek Hill was probably deemed untouchable heading into the offseason, but after failing to work out an extension in Kansas City, he was dealt to the Miami Dolphins.

The same scenario could play out with the likes of Metcalf, Brown, and Samuel, all of whom are set to enter the final year of their rookie contract in 2022. If contract negotiations don't go seamlessly for them and their respective teams, the Jets will be waiting in the wings, ready to pounce.

The Jets have made it a priority to get more talent around Wilson, and those star players would all be a huge get for the developing quarterback as he seeks to reach his potential. For now, nothing is in the works, but the Jets will be keeping tabs on the contract situations of those three players in case something goes awry.
