New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is banged up again dealing this time with a toe issue. Darnold missed practice on Wednesday and according to Brian Costello of The New York Post, Adam Gase said that he will be a limited participant in practice on Thursday.

Darnold had a toenail removed after being stepped on by a teammate during Monday Night Football. Gase described the procedure as gross and it's unclear if he is going to be ready to go on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It's never good if your franchise quarterback misses a game, but it might be best for Darnold after what happened against the New England Patriots. It was picked up by ESPN that Darnold told Gase he was “seeing ghosts” going against the Patriots defense. Darnold completed only 34 percent of his passes for 86 yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The Jets have made it clear that they aren't happy that comment was aired on ESPN. Teammate Le'Veon Bell made clear in a tweet that the NFL was at fault for the situation.

“The NFL screwed Sammy over,” Bell wrote in a tweet. “There's not one player in the NFL who's cool with having every sideline convo broadcasted to millions…there's a reason we've never heard other QB's frustrated on the sideline like that before…that's crazy, @NFL did Sam dirty as hell.”

A week on the bench to let the bad game against the Patriots sizzle down might be best for Darnold's long-term confidence going forward.
