The New York Jets have a bright future firmly ahead of the franchise with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold under center leading the way. However, the team had attempted a strong pursuit of Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins over the offseason in hope that he could be the cornerstone player under center for the long haul before chose to ink a fully guaranteed contract of three-year, $84 million with the Minnesota Vikings.

Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network reports that the Jets are satisfied with having Darnold in the fold instead.

From all sides in the organization, it's unanimous that the Jets are pleased that it worked out as it did. As the Vikings come into town to take on Gang Green today, it's Kirk Cousins vs. the man who ended up in his place — No. 3 pick Sam Darnold. And while the Jets clearly wanted Cousins first, their Plan B seems to be working out just fine.

There have been plenty of bumps along the way as Darnold navigates through his first season in the league as he has shown flashes of great potential. He may have struggled through Sunday's 27-17 loss with three interceptions, but that has come to be expected as he gets adjusted to the competition and complexity of the defenses at the next level.

Darnold has demonstrated to have the potential to lead the franchise to success with his arm in short bursts this season that has seen him pass for 1,552 yards with 10 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. At that same token, the team will look to add more talent around him to provide him better receiving weapons that could aid him being able to take the next step in his development.

New York has a clear awareness that it is a rebuilding process and Darnold looks to possibly be the quarterback that could push them through that. Kirk Cousins is long gone, but the Jets have a promising future with their new young star.
