Kentucky Wildcats coach John Calipari is nothing if blunt when talking to the media, It's why his comments on Overtime Elite and the G League — alternative options of players Cal might normally recruit — come as no surprise.

Some context first. While everyone knows what the G League is, especially know that their Ignite team snags top high school prospects, it's important to note that Overtime Elite is brand new. Expected to launch in the fall, the league will be recruiting high school stars to play in high school leagues.

So far, OT Elite has already landed five top prospects.

Naturally, people are going to wonder what this means for college basketball. Coupled with the PCL, Overtime Elite and the G League are all other options for the world's best basketball players that operate outside the NCAA's purview. Kentucky coach John Calipari, however, while admitting there's competition, doesn't seem that worried.

It obviously depends on what type of players continue to commit to Overtime Elite. The G League has off-and-on landed some quality players; while the PCL has yet to announce an official commitment at this point.

The Bump The Cutter Newsletter has covered the PCL when it was in its infancy and called the HBL, and has written about all the leagues various times recently. They are a decent starting point for those unfamiliar with them.

Otherwise, information on all the new startup leagues can be found at various places with a simple Google search. That said, the same can be applied to the Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari… who probably have a better domain authority. Hooray, SEO jokes!
