Buddy Hield is looking to seal the deal with the Sacramento Kings on a long-term contract extension. The Kings have until Oct. 21 to sign their 6-foot-4 shooting guard to a rookie-scale extension or he will become a restricted free agent next summer.

The 26-year-old couldn't have better timing, as he's coming off a career-best season, averaging 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while playing all 82 games last season. Hield is ready to put pen to paper immediately:

“We need to get that done,” Hield told Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee. “I want to get that done, for sure. If it doesn’t get done, things could go the other way. This is where I want to be, so it would be good for me to be here in Sacramento. If I’m their guy, I think they should make it happen already. I want to build a future here. I want to be here, but we have to see something. Something’s gotta come to the table. We have a week and a half to see what that brings, but I want to be here.”

The Kings are fresh off paying Harrison Barnes to remain with the team, a four-year, $85 million commitment. Sacramento also signed center Dewayne Dedmon to a three-year, $40 million deal and is likely hoping to save room to extend future star De'Aaron Fox, who is eligible for a max extension next summer.

Hield has shot the lights out from beyond the arc throughout his last three seasons, becoming one of the most feared perimeter threats. He shot a sparkling 42.8% in 2016-17, 43.1% in 2017-18, and 42.7% in 2018-19 — quickly becoming an elite presence around the perimeter and a key to the Kings' spacing.
