Sacramento Kings rising star De’Aaron Fox is betting on himself big time this season.

During an appearance in the Purple Talk Podcast with Doug Christie and James Ham, the Kings’ speedy guard discussed about becoming a much more complete player entering his third year in the league.

“I think obviously, it’s becoming a consistent shooter,” Fox shared. “The way that we play, and the way that my skillset fits is, I’ll get anywhere I want.

“Obviously it’s about putting the ball in the basket at more of an efficient rate.”

After finishing second in the Most Improved Player of the Year voting last season, it’s not hard to see why Fox could make a leap to becoming an All-Star this year.

With his finer-twitch reflexes and ridiculously quick first step, the 21-year-old already possesses the uncanny ability to get to the cup anytime he pleases. With defenders backing up on him, Fox has also worked on his range and displayed significant improvements from downtown. He shot 37.1 percent from deep last year — a vast improvement from the 30.7 clip he made in his rookie year.

Fox averaged 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists while starting all 81 regular season games for the Kings last year.

The University of Kentucky alum is no slouch on the defensive end either, as he ranked ninth in the league in steals at 1.6 per game. Still, Fox knows that becoming a bigger threat defensively will be key to unlocking his true potential.

“Being able to control the game on both ends of the court,” Fox said. “Not too many point guards are able to do it on both ends of the court.

“Make them make tough shots, make them work while they’re on offense, they’re not trying to guard you on the defensive end.”
