We're starting to get a better understanding of why Vlade Divac stepped down as general manager of the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Divac quit after having a disagreement with Kings owner Vivek Ranadive.

“Sources say Vlade Divac had a phone conversation with Kings owner Vivek Ranadive about the future of the front office, and a major shift to their agreed-upon structure was proposed: What if, Ranadive told Divac, Kings advisor and former Detroit Pistons player and executive, Joe Dumars, assumed a larger role in which he would have the final say on the roster and the two of them would work side by side?

Divac, sources say, had zero interest.

Divac made it clear all along that he wanted full autonomy with the Kings. Once Ranadive was looking to change that, the former Sacramento star big man decided to move on from his post.

The Kings missed the playoffs again this season. The Sacramento franchise hasn't made the postseason since all the way back in 2006. They have the longest playoff drought in the NBA.

It will be interesting to see how the players on the team react to the Divac news, especially since they had exit interviews with him after the season ended at Disney World.

Sacramento went 31-41 in 2019-20, 12th place in the Western Conference standings.
