Budda Baker underwent thumb surgery this week after playing through the injury in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions. Following Baker's successful surgery, Kliff Kingsbury gave an update on Baker's injury as the Arizona Cardinals prepare to face the Carolina Panthers.

“We’re hoping it’s sooner rather than later,” Kingsbury said, via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. “I don’t want to put any timetable on it just yet knowing Budda and the type of super human he is. You never know. But everything went well, so we’re excited about that.”

Baker suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb during Arizona's bout with the Washington Football Team in Week 2. Nevertheless, the All-Pro safety would play through the injury in Week 3 by sporting a cast on the ailing thumb.

After battling through the pain, Baker underwent thumb surgery on Wednesday, putting his status against the Panthers in jeopardy. However, Kingsbury would fail to rule out the versatile defensive back for Arizona's upcoming contest.

The former second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has been a vital member of the Cardinals since his rookie season. Through the first three weeks of the 2020 season, he has tallied 28 tackles and a pass breakup.

Back in August, the Cardinals made Baker the highest-paid safety in NFL history, giving him a four-year, $59 million extension. While he hasn't logged an interception yet in his career, his contributions to Arizona's defense shouldn't be understated.

With Arizona looking to bounce back from their devastating loss to the Detroit Lions, they could be without Baker on the back-end of their secondary.
