New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale is siding with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver when it comes to the proposed schedule changes.

Fizdale argued that the in-season tournament format makes sense because all 82 games are already an individual battle on a night-in, night-out basis (via Howie Kussoy of the New York Post):

“In-season tournament? Every game’s an in-season tournament for me. We’re fighting for our life every night,” Knicks coach David Fizdale said. “One thing about the commissioner, he’s innovative, he’s always trying to make the game better and grow our game in a way that’s always constantly improving it. I think all of us as coaches, [general managers] and presidents, we all got a lot of confidence in the decisions they make. Whatever they decide, I’m in. I’m rolling with it.”

Fizdale has always been one to speak his mind in a more elaborative fashion. Not so much when it pertains to Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. Popovich said he had “bigger fish to fry” when asked about the proposed changes, but he did state that he has faith in the Commissioner and his brain trust.

Scheduling has been an issue in the NBA for some time now. Earlier this year, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr lobbied for the league to shorten the schedule from 82 games to 75 games.

This is not a unique situation in the NBA, either. The NFL has had recent discussions to shorten the preseason and increase the regular-season schedule to 18 games, though the Player's Union does not seem to agree with the idea.

If implemented, the changes would likely take place at the start of the 2021-22 season.
