Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra says it's a shame the New York Knicks didn't give David Fizdale and his staff more time to turn things around in The Big Apple.

The Knicks fired Fizdale on Friday. He was in his second season with the organization.

Fizdale was Spoelstra's top assistant coach on the Heat for years. Heat legend Dwyane Wade said last season he believed Fizdale could help the Knicks attract star free agents.

That didn't happen in the summer, though, as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets. Neither All-Star took a meeting with New York.

Fizdale went 21-83 with the Knicks. It must have been tough for the team to watch the Nets get Durant and Irving. The allure of playing in Madison Square Garden isn’t that enticing for players anymore since the Knicks have been a walking disaster for years under the ownership of James Dolan.

New York has the worst record in the East right now. It really doesn't matter who is coaching the Knicks at this point though, as the roster is flawed and management clearly has no idea what its doing.

There are some fans in New York who believe the franchise won't be good again until Dolan sells the team. They might be right.
