New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale gave an update on rookie small forward Kevin Knox Tuesday, and it appears the 19-year-old is making progress from his left ankle sprain.

Fizdale told local reporters that while Kevin Knox won't play on Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers, he will travel with the team for Friday’s game versus the Dallas Mavericks.

Knox did some non-contact drills in Knicks practice on Tuesday.

Knox suffered the sprained ankle at home against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 20. X-Rays on Knox’s ankle came back negative, and reports stated he would miss around 2-4 weeks.

The Knicks selected Knox with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He had a strong summer league showing and turned a lot of heads after being booed by Knicks fans at the draft. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 21.3 points and 6.5 rebounds during the Las Vegas summer league and showed off his athleticism and versatility.

Through three regular-season games, Kevin Knox is averaging 9.3 points and 2.0 rebounds.

New York is 2-5 on the young season. The Knicks are not expected to contend for a playoff spot this year since star power forward Kristaps Porzingis will miss the majority of the season recovering from ACL surgery.
