New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris and Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Joel Embiid got into a minor spat in their Wednesday night game, which the Sixers won by a final score of 109 to 104.

The game was testy and extremely competitive all night, as both teams experienced wild swings ā€” especially the Knicks, who were up by 17 at one point.

However, the headline play (other than Ben Simmons hitting a three) was Morris pulling down Embiid on defense, leading to a bit of scuffle in which Morris had to be slightly restrained.

After the game finished, the eight-year NBA veteran had some choice words for the 7-foot, 250-pound Embiid.

While no player is too big to flop, Morrisā€™s point is that there should be a fair bit of finesse on defense at times. However, the rules are the rules and charges and ā€œselling contactā€ are part of the game, especially as recent rules changes have prioritized freedom of movement.

Embiid, for his part, is certainly a master of accentuating any contact he receives either on the perimeter or in the paint, and in 2018-19 he attempted a career-high 10.1 free throws per game for a total of 649 on a whopping 54.1 percent free throw rate.

This season, Embiidā€™s per-game numbers are down on free throws (to 7.4 per game), and his free throw rate is the lowest it has been since his second season (45.6 percent in 2019-20).

Despite that, Mook Morris clearly thinks heā€™s a flopper, and it seems unlikely that heā€™ll ever believe differently.
