Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri reportedly viewed the New York Knicks as a viable future destination, according to Michael Grange of Sports Net.

However, it looks like the Knicks are going to hire Leon Rose as their new team president. Rose is a longtime agent and currently works for CAA. He represents Carmelo Anthony, Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, Devin Booker, Joel Embiid, Kyle Kuzma, Chris Paul and many other NBA players.

Knicks owner James Dolan reportedly began exploring the front office model of hiring a player agent shortly after firing Mills. The Golden State Warriors under Bob Myers and the Los Angeles Lakers under Rob Pelinka have had success with the former agent model.

The Raptors ownership has been emphatic that they are not going to allow Ujiri to leave easily for the Knicks before his contract expires in the summer of 2021.

Even if the wheels were being greased to ease Masai Ujiri to the Knicks at some point – and multiple league sources have confirmed to me that the Raptors executive has seen the Knicks as a viable destination, depending on timing – there was always the possibility that James Dolan would veer into another direction, and he did.

There have been some preliminary discussions between Ujiri and MLSE, but nothing has changed over the past month regarding his desire to wait until the summer of 2020 to address his contract status. Ujiri could even wait until 2021.
