The New York Knicks have signed guard Billy Garrett Jr. for the remainder of this season:

Garrett is a 24-year-old shooting guard who last played for the Westchester Knicks in the G League. At 6-6, the Chicago native has good size and a knack for scoring the rock.

In 48 appearances with Westchester this season, Garrett racked up averages of 16.5 points on 47.5 percent shooting from the field (32.2 percent from beyond the arc), 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and just under one steal (0.9) in 29.8 minutes per outing.

Garrett played his collegiate ball at DePaul. His father, Billy Sr., serves as director of basketball operations with the Blue Demons.

Garrett has excelled in basketball despite the fact that he was diagnosed with sickle cell disease. In 2014, he experienced a serious sickle cell attack, but he managed to recover in a big way. As a freshman at DePaul, he earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors, averaging 12.4 points and 3.2 assists per game.

The Knicks are likely making this move to shore up their ranks in the backcourt. Frank Ntilikina has been ruled out for the remainder of this season due to a groin injury. Allonzo Trier (calf) and Kadeem Allen (concussion) are both listed as day-to-day with ailments of their own.

The Knicks will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they'll travel to Orlando for a matchup against the Magic. Tip-off inside the Amway Center is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
