Some league insiders have questioned whether New York Knicks owner James Dolan is as all-in on Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri as advertised, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Dolan reportedly might not hire Ujiri due to his role in the Carmelo Anthony trade with the Denver Nuggets which took place back in 2011:

Some league insiders also have questioned whether James Dolan is as all-in on Masai Ujiri as advertised, because of the perception in various corners that the league office (specifically N.B.A. Commissioner Adam Silver) is pushing Ujiri as the ideal candidate to try to rescue the Knicks. Memories of Ujiri famously fleecing the Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony trade when he was in Denver in 2011, and again in the Andrea Bargnani trade in 2013, are likewise described as potential Dolan turnoffs.

And if you don’t think Dolan is sufficiently sensitive to let such notions bother him, well, that probably means you haven’t been paying attention.

The Knicks fired Steve Mills as team president on Tuesday. Scott Perry will take over basketball operations for the Knicks on an interim basis.

Ujiri is under contract through the 2020-21 season with the Raptors. Would he really want to leave a stable situation in Toronto for a murky one with the Knicks? Only time will tell, but it appears there could be some road blocks down the line.

The Knicks will once again miss the playoffs this season.
