After getting waived by the Houston Rockets recently to make room for their signing of veteran swingman Joe Johnson, free agent forward Troy Williams is currently receiving a lot of interest from teams around the league. One of them is from the New York Knicks, who currently have an open roster spot and can use his skills on the court to help them as the season progresses, according to Ian Begley of ESPN.

The 23-year-old Indiana product went undrafted in 2016 but did not give up on his NBA dreams. He worked hard for it and was rewarded by getting signed by the Memphis Grizzlies, who he suited up for 24 games last season. Williams then took his talents to the Iowa Energy of the G League before receiving two call ups from the Rockets the past two years.

This season, he has seen action in four games for them, and averaged 1.3 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.3 minutes per game.

The Knicks could give him a bigger role to play having a need for depth at their forward rotation. After seeing Kristaps Porzingis tear his ACL and being slated to miss the remainder of the season, the team has since lost eight straight games and are in need of all the help they can get to snap out of their slump and have a more respectable record.

Troy William

Williams may not be the biggest name available right now, but his skill set and versatility has turned him into a coveted free agent, especially having the ability to play and defend multiple positions. With the Knicks not making any moves before the trade deadline, they are now forced to look into free agents and those who were recently waived, as their source for a player who can take on their open roster spot and hopefully, contribute to their cause immediately.
