The New York Knicks really want to move off the contract of Joakim Noah.

The Knicks have been trying to look for a possible trade scenario to get Noah out of New York for some time now. Thus far, the team has been unsuccessful.

But it has now come out that the Knicks are willing to add a sweetener to a team who is willing to take Noah off their hands, per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders.

A league source familiar with the Knicks’ thinking suggested New York may be open to giving up their first-round pick this year to offload Noah without needing to buy him out or carry a monster cap hit. The prevailing thought was the Knicks wouldn’t be bad enough to land one of the gems of the draft class, and with so much youth on the roster now, a one year hit to jettison Noah seems to be at least under consideration.

That is one heck of a sweetener. The Knicks want to put themselves in good position for the next few years, and Noah makes too much money for the that to happen the way the Knicks want. Plus, Noah is completely out of the rotation, so the Knicks don't need him anyway.

But to give up a first-round pick for a player who hasn't been the same for years and is not currently playing is quite brave. And also, desperate.

But sometimes in the NBA, a team has to do the desperate thing and give up an asset to do it.
