Team USA’s gold medal match set to begin a few hours from now is extremely meaningful for United States basketbal as it will be coach Mike Krzyzewski’s international swan song.

The man who played one of the biggest roles in the country’s reclamation of hoops glory will be coaching his final game for the Red, White, and Blue against Serbia.

Since taking over the reigns on the bench, the 69-year-old coaching legend has received nothing but utmost, and instant, respect from his player, and he has returned the favor through excellent mentorship and, of course, wins.

As early as now, another pillar of Team USA’s revival in Kobe Bryant shared his high regard for the man they call “Coach K”, via ESPN’s Marc Stein.

“Coach K brought the pride of being an American back to the team. He brought in army vets and generals to speak with us and share their stories. He helped us see that we, as athletes, are an inspiration to the men and women that protect the freedoms we enjoy. That is the biggest impact.”

“The gold medal now meant so much more. When we won (in Beijing), I envisioned our troops abroad celebrating. I did it for them. That's the perspective Coach K brought. He made it not about us but about the U.S.”

San Antonio Spurs coach, and current member of Team USA’s coaching staff, Gregg Popovich will be handed the responsibility of piloting the national basketball game plan moving forward.
