Toronto Raptors team president Masai Ujiri has made headlines of late, following the recent release of body cam footage that captured his infamous run-in with a security personnel in Oracle Arena moments after the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. Raptors veteran point guard Kyle Lowry has weighed in on the matter, and expressed how this incident has to be viewed as much more than just a simple case of misunderstanding between two parties.

According to Lowry, these are exactly the type of transgressions that inspire him to continue fighting for social justice.

Lowry has been quite active in supporting the Black Lives Matter initiative, with the 34-year-old even taking to the streets to join in the peaceful protests.

In the video, the security personnel is clearly seen being overly aggressive with Ujiri as he tried to enter the playing court. Many believe that the high-ranking Raptors official was a victim of racial profiling, and that he was rather violently prevented from joining his team's celebrations simply because of the color of his skin.

Much has been made of this incident — which transpired more than a year ago now — and all sorts of opinions have been raised with regards to how and why this ugly scene happened in the first place. It has become a he said, she said sort of narrative, and has emerged as a rather polarizing issue in the league.

Whatever the case may be, it is clear that Ujiri was not treated in the proper way by the security personnel, and the latter's action is inexcusable regardless of the victim's race.
