Earlier Saturday, Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson stated that there wasn’t an update on Kyrie Irving’s shoulder. Although Irving has been out for an extended time, it’s understandable why Atkinson was mum on the situation.

However, Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy.com reported that there is talk within the Nets organization that Irving may have bursitis.

On Monday evening during Irving’s ‘Nike Kyrie Irving Invitational Tournament’ at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, a source within the Nets organization stated that Irving could be out two to three more weeks with what they are privately calling thoracic bursitis.
After Saturday’s earlier report, Irving confirmed Robinson’s story.

Not having Irving for an extended period of time wasn’t in the team’s plans. No injury is, but the Nets are already without Kevin Durant. Not having either star on the floor is a big blow to how this season was supposed to play out.
Nevertheless, the Nets are doing well. They are currently 16-17 and are sitting at the seventh seed in the East. But one can only wonder what the Nets record would be if Irving didn’t miss their last 22 games.
Still, it’s still a bad look that the message of Irving’s injury couldn’t be articulated more consistently. Atkinson says one thing, and Irving says another. But what they can find common ground on is the fact that Irving won’t return anytime soon.
