When Anthony Davis learned that he wouldn't be able to use the No.23 jersey that LeBron James gifted him, he decided to use No.3 instead. However, there were fans who urged the Los Angeles Lakers star to use No.80 because it sounded like “AD.”

Unfortunately, as the new Lakers big man shared to Jimmy Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, he didn't like the number because it's “too confusing” and a “huge number” for him.

“A lot of people actually told me that,” Davis said when Kimmel suggested No.80. “‘Hey, you should be number 80’ and I was like ‘that’s too confusing, that’s a huge number. I’m good, I will stick with No. 3.’”

There are very few NBA players of note that wear any jersey numbers north of 70. Ron Artest, George Mikan, and Chris Webber all wore high numbers, but it's been a while since a great player donned a jersey number that high.

Davis probably made a good decision to stick with three, his elementary school number. Anyway, he only has to play one season in it before he can go back to his old, familiar 23. To recall, AD wasn't allowed to change his number because it's already too late and it will cost a lot of money for the league's apparel provider, Nike, to make the change.
