Los Angeles Lakers guard JR Smith has been taking notes of politics lately. The veteran sharpshooter took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the lack of COVID-19 testing on government officials versus players being required to be tested daily.

After his tweet picked up some steam, he was rebutted by Los Angeles Times' Kelcie Pegher, who aimed her statement towards sports being held on a higher pedestal than government in the eyes of most civilians.

It appears that Smith had the last closing statement in the quick Twitter exchange though, as he left spectators of the conversation with a little food for thought.

What Smith was more than likely implying isn't that players shouldn't be tested on a daily basis; his message was simply that those in a more elect position in society should be regulated to the same pandemic standards that have been set forth, if not stricter.

We haven't heard much from Smith before in terms of being on the front lines in politics. After being reunited with star and activist LeBron James, however, he's bound to be more vocal going forward.

Smith hasn't seen much playing time in the postseason, averaging just under eight minutes of playing time per contest. Even so, we may see more of him in Game 4 as Lakers head coach Frank Vogel looks to shake up the offense. The Lakers dropped the ball on rising to a commanding 3-0 lead against the Miami Heat on Sunday night.

They'll look to redeem themselves with a blowout in Game 4 behind a more impressive effort from All-Star big man Anthony Davis.
