Kobe Bryant was once again named a winner and received another award on Sunday. However, it’s not in the NBA, and not even for a performance that he had on the court that he was given a distinct honor, but for his excellence in making a short film, “Dear Basketball,” which won an Oscar Award.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend was present to receive the trophy and even gave an acceptance speech after. Instead of immediately thanking those who made it possible for him to win, he did not waste time in firing a shot directed at Fox Sports’ Laura Ingraham, for the comments she gave LeBron James, asking him to just shut up and dribble.

Bryant proved that there’s more to NBA players than just playing basketball. They can be instruments in promoting positive change, and use the game as a platform to raise awareness against different social issues the world is facing. The Black Mamba also showed that they can excel in other fields and pursue other things they are passionate about.

The shot Kobe Bryant gave to Laura Ingraham also sends a strong message that he supports not only James, but all players who are active when it comes to community work and making their opinions known publicly, even if it’s about politics or other controversial issues. It can be expected that more former and current players will be more vocal moving forward, as they know that one of the best players of all-time has their backs, and believes that they can do more than just play basketball.
