The Los Angeles Lakers have waived former Gonzaga standout Zach Norvell Jr. in order to sign former UNC Wilmington star Devontae Cacok to a two-way deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic:

Norvell went undrafted this summer before signing a two-way deal with the Lakers. Although he showed out during the preseason, he has hardly seen the floor in the 2019-20 regular season.

The Chicago native has registered just two appearances with the Lakers while spending most of his time in the G League. Through 12 games, Norvell was averaging over 13 points per game but shooting a woeful 35.3 percent from the field.

Cacok, on the other hand, is excelling in an undersized forward role. He was averaging 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds in just under 23 minutes per game with the South Bay Lakers. Cacok has earned at least a partial opportunity to spend some time with the senior roster at some point this season.

The Lakers need some more help on the wing, particularly after Kyle Kuzma's ankle injury and Anthony Davis playing a little banged up for the past few games.

Cacok cannot shoot the floor, but he fits in with L.A.'s frontcourt identity in terms of  converting in and around the rim while swallowing everything on the glass.

Los Angeles has gotten off to a hot start, thanks in part to dominance of Davis and LeBron James. The Lakers boast one of the most well-balanced attacks in basketball, and they will give Cacok a chance to prove his worth in the coming weeks.
