The Los Angeles Lakers took multiple hits during NBA Opening Night on Tuesday.

The Lakers were defeated by the crosstown rival Clippers after failing to overcome a 22-point deficit, and LeBron James rolled his ankle late in the game trying to block a Serge Ibaka layup.

However, James is intent on playing Christmas Day against the Dallas Mavericks:

The atmosphere will indeed be quite different without fans at Staples Center, and LeBron still feels odd playing on L.A.'s home floor under these circumstances. But the Lakers will maneuver as they continue their title defense throughout the year.

The Purple and Gold struggled out of the gates against the Clippers, who built a 20-point first-quarter lead. Although the Lakers came roaring back into the game, they were powerless to stop Paul George, who scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half and almost single-handedly kept the Clippers in front.

The Clippers' victory spoiled ring night. But James understands it's a long season ahead, and L.A. is still trying to get acclimated after less than two months off.

It could be more important James noted his ankle is good to go. Health will be paramount for all teams this season, but especially a Lakers team that had such a short offseason.

LeBron and the Lakers will hope to bounce back against Luke Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day.
