The Los Angeles Lakers have not had the most promising start to the preseason as they’ve lost their first two games. However, head coach Luke Walton has still seen some bright spots on his team.

One of those bright spots has been backup point guard Tyler Ennis. Walton says Ennis has unexpectedly impressed him the most in preseason, per ClutchPoints’ Ryan Ward.

Tyler Ennis had a particularly strong preseason debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He scored six points and dished out eight assists in just 12 minutes of play. He followed that up with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists in 17 minutes against the Denver Nuggets.

Ennis also ended last season with the Lakers on a high note when given more playing time. He averaged 11.6 points on 46 percent shooting from the field and 42.5 percent on 3-pointers with 3.4 assists in 26.5 minutes over his last 10 games. He had his two highest-scoring games of the year — a 19- and a 20-point game — during the Lakers’ unexpected five-game win streak late in the year.

The 23-year-old re-signed this offseason with the Lakers and will be behind Lonzo Ball on the point guard depth chart. With his strong play in preseason, Tyler Ennis may be earning himself a few more minutes from Luke Walton to back up Ball once the season starts.
