Retired NBA player Matt Barnes strongly believes that Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans would love to play alongside LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaking on Fox Sports 1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd, as transcribed by Daniel Blackham of Express, Barnes — a former Lakers player himself — believes that Davis is considering a trade.

“I think he would.”

Matt Barnes added that LeBron James, for his part, is looking at the current pieces of the young Lakers squad. According to Barnes, he's looking at who'll be his co-pilot.

“I think there’s so much talk of ‘I don’t want to play with LeBron’ and all that. LeBron is really surveying the scene this year. He’s analysing the team, analysing what pieces he has and who his co-pilot is going to be.”

Barnes' comments come in after James said that he would definitely love playing with Davis. Davis, for his part, was flattered by James' comments but noted that he's focused on helping his team win now. He'll be a free agent by the summer of 2020 and next year, he has an opportunity to ink a supermax deal with the Pelicans.

As another trade deadline is approaching, rumors involving Anthony Davis are getting louder each day. With a superstar caliber player like Davis, the Lakers might give up several of their young players — an unlikely possibility if Magic Johnson is concerned. However, almost anything can happen in the NBA. Davis might just be one trade package away from joining forces with LeBron James.
