The Anthony Davis trade drama at the February trade deadline essentially tore up the Los Angeles Lakers' locker room and front office.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss called all the Davis rumors “fake news” even though everyone knew Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka were aggressively trying to acquire Davis.

ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst elaborated on that in a interview with Erik Garcia Gundersen of LeBron Wire:

This is one thing I don’t quite understand. When Jeanie Buss called it fake news or whatever, I understand that it caused some problems in the chemistry of the team. Certainly I work on a team, say the New York Post writes about ESPN and I read a story that ‘The Jump’ was thinking about moving me out to bring in Chris Mannix or Shams. It would bother me. I’m aware of that. I’m not unsympathetic to the human emotion. But if Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka weren’t offering the entire team for Anthony Davis they were derelict in their duty.

Once all the young players on the Lakers saw on the internet that they were being shopped for Davis, the Lakers were never able to recover.

Los Angeles will try and trade for Davis again this summer.
