The Detroit Lions traded superstar cornerback Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles early on Thursday for a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. The Eagles then promptly signed Slay to a three-year extension.

Slay quickly took to Twitter to say farewell to the Detroit Lions, and thank the city and the fans.

Slay spent his first seven seasons in the NFL with Detroit. While there, the cornerback turned into a star. He is now considered one of the best defensive backs in all of football.

Philadelphia has quickly bolstered their secondary, which desperately needed some help.

Meanwhile, the Lions got some assets in return for Slay. While it may not seem like all that much, they were in a tough spot. Slay's contract was expiring soon, and they couldn't seem to agree on terms.

So instead of seeing the superstar walk, and getting nothing in return, the Lions decided to ensure they got a little something back.

Moving on from Slay got even more likely once the Lions signed free agent cornerback Desmond Trufant, and not long after, they did indeed pull the trigger.

It is also widely speculated that the Lions will be taking Jeff Okudah in the NFL Draft. Okudah is seen as the best cornerback prospect in the draft, and someone that could be an immediate star in the NFL.

That means that the Lions secondary could somehow be improving this offseason despite losing Slay. Gaining Trufant and Okudah is definitely hard to argue.

Meanwhile, Slay gets to go to a team that has been a constant in the playoffs recently, and even won the Super Bowl just a few short seasons ago.

The addition of Slay certainly makes the Eagles that much more dangerous. And with Philadelphia in a weak NFC East, he could be the piece they needed to ensure another division title.

In the end, this seems like a solid move for all parties, as everyone has a clear view towards the future.
