The Detroit Lions suffered a brutal hit to its playoff chances against the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving. While an optimist might look at the near come from behind victory as a reason to smile, cornerback Darius Slay prefers the Lions never put themselves in that position to start with.

Slay, who did explain that he's always all the way jazzed up, discussed his teammates not exactly starting the game with the same sort of fire.

“I don’t know, man,” Slay said, via the Detroit Free-Press. “I ain’t everybody. Everybody different. Everybody wired different. So I don’t know how to change that. They’ve got to have in in their heart and their desire. Like, I love this game. … Everybody’s doing it for their family mostly. So you’re going out here to slack off for your family, man? You’re a prime example of your family. I don’t want my son or nobody see me out there half-assing.”

Man, that is some tough love. None of us are actually in the locker room to know the dynamic in earnest, but whenever someone of Darius Slay's stature feels comfortable saying something that strong to the media, you know there has to be some nuggets of truth behind it.

The Lions are currently 6-5 on the season. By no stretch does that mean they are out of the playoff hunt. It does, however, mean that the margin for error just became a lot smaller.

For what it is worth, Detroit had previously dug itself out of holes earlier in the season. That being said, Slay is not wrong that the Lions should just stop putting themselves in those sorts of positions.
