The Detroit Lions have activated defensive lineman Trey Flowers from the physically unable to perform list, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Flowers has been dealing with a shoulder issue, but he is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

The Lions signed Flowers to a five-year, $90 million deal earlier this offseason.

Flowers, who played his collegiate football at the University of Arkansas, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (101st pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He played in just one game during his rookie year as a result of a shoulder injury, but the following year, Flowers appeared in all 16 contests, registering 45 tackles, seven sacks and a couple of fumble recoveries to help the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

Then, the following year, Flowers participated in 14 games, finishing with 62 tackles, 6.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. He then went on to play in 15 games this past season, recording 57 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles, helping New England win yet another championship.

Meanwhile, the Lions are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just six games in Matt Patricia's first year as head coach. Detroit has made just three playoff appearances since 2000, with all of those trips coming since 2011. It last made the postseason during the 2016-17 season.

Going back even further, the Lions have not won a playoff game since the 1991-92 campaign, when they made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game before losing to the Dallas Cowboys.
