Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates has been arrested and accused of assault on a police officer.

According to Rocco Parascandola and Thomas Tracy of the New York Daily News, Bates was apprehended by Queens police on Saturday morning for refusing to pay his cab fare at the 115th Precinct stationhouse in Jackson Heights. He said he didn’t like a sergeant and a handful of cops standing nearby and then punched the sergeant in the face, authorities said.

Police reportedly took Bates to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, after refusing to be fingerprinted at 4 a.m. this morning.

It is yet to be determined what will become of the assault charges on the officer, who suffered a concussion and three stitches, per Parascandola and Tracy.

The Lions' organization later released a statement on the debacle.

Bates, 25, recorded just one solo tackle for the 6-10 Lions in the 2018-19 season. The Maine product was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2016 and was on the practice squads for both the New York Giants and the New England Patriots before being picked up by the Lions, according to the website.

In college, he played in 46 games and totaled 207 tackles (35 for loss), with 19 sacks, three interceptions, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and nine pass breakups.
