Detroit Lions defensive tackle Damon Harrison and cornerback Darius Slay have been placed on the NFI list according to their team website. Harrison and Slay both missed all of the team's offseason training program, but they both reported with the team on Wednesday.

Lions coach Matt Patricia said during a media briefing that both guys were close, but they just needed a little more time to get ready to practice with their teammates.

“We made the announcement earlier this week about three guys on PUP,” Lions head coach Matt Patricia said in his introductory press conference before Thursday’s practice. “Then we’ll place three more guys today on NFI, it’s another different designation tag – Darius Kilgo, Damon Harrison and Darius Slay – just another tag that we’re allowed to use when we get to camp so that guys when they report to camp if we feel need a little more time to before they’re thrown into individual drills, so they go out prepared and away we go, we’re going to do that with them. Just (make sure they’re) physically ready to go.”

The three guys that Patricia is referring to that are on the PUP are defensive end Trey Flowers, wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, and linebacker Steve Longa.

Flowers was the Lions' big offseason acquisition who had minor shoulder surgery after last season ended. The expectation was that he would be ready for the start of training camp, but he is still a little ways away, so he is starting on the PUP list.
