The Detroit Lions may be losing one of their key starters on defense for the season. On the first defensive possession of their preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, linebacker Jarrad David was carted off of the field.

On the play, David was making his way towards making a tackle before his teammate Devon Kennard rolled onto the back of his leg. Detroit's starting inside linebacker had to be helped off of the field by the trainers before being carted off.

David was also in tears while teammates wished him well before he made his way off of the field on the cart.

There has yet to be an update on what the injury could be. For the Lions, they are hoping that they avoid a detrimental loss to their much-improved defense.

For Davis, the inside linebacker is entering his third season with the team. Over the past two seasons, Davis has started in 30 games and has totaled 196 tackles, eight sacks, and 14 tackles for loss.

Coming into this season, Matt Patricia was seemingly going to have a nearly unstoppable front seven. This offseason, the Lions were able to acquire Trey Flowers and Mike Daniels to pair with Damon Harrison, Da'Shawn Hand, and A'Shawn Robinson.

Along with those guys, Patricia was relying on Davis to be a vital part of their defense in 2019. Now, the team may need to find his replacement in the coming weeks.

With roster cuts coming soon, Detroit could find their eventual inside linebacker in free agency. Currently, if the Lions decide to use someone on their current roster; then maybe Christian Jones could slide over to inside linebacker.

Hopefully, we receive positive news regarding Davis after he gets an MRI.
