In what was tabbed as the biggest Premier League match of the season, Manchester City and Liverpool finished with a 2-2 draw result on matchday 32.

The two Premier League powerhouses did not create a multitude of high-percentage goal-scoring chances over the course of the fixture, but they each were efficient when operating play in the final third.

This result did not move the needle in the Premier League standings, as Manchester City still holds a slim one-point lead over Liverpool. Still, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, as he noted to the BBC after the fixture, sees that this contest was a missed chance for his side to create some separation at the top of the table.

“You have to play these types of games,” Guardiola said. “We are top of the table still so we have a feeling that we miss a huge opportunity to make a stamp but there are many games left. You are a manager for these types of games.”

As Guardiola touched on, there are indeed still “many games left” in the Premier League this season. The reigning Premier League champions have fixtures against the likes of West Ham United and Wolverhampton, while Liverpool still has to play Tottenham and Manchester United.

The return leg of its UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie against Atletico Madrid now awaits Manchester City up next.
