Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is wishing nothing but the best for his rival and now former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United‘s humiliating loss to Watford marked the beginning of the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign as the famed club's manager. The Red Devils have decided to finally fire Solskjaer after taking the heat for the team's disastrous run in the English Premier League.

Since being appointed as Manchester United manager in 2019, Solskjaer went head-to-head with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, especially during derby matches.

Sharing his thoughts on the Norwegian's sacking, Guardiola wished Solskjaer the best moving forward and also acknowledged that leading a top European club such as Manchester United was not like a walk in the park.

“I wish him all the best,” Guardiola said of Solskjaer's firing via Manchester Evening News. “It was a pleasure to face him – he beat me more than I wanted but he knows, like I know, that when you are in charge of a team like United, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, you have to win.”

Guardiola went on to relate Solskjaer's situation to his by emphasizing that he is only still with Manchester City because he and the club are still winning.

“I am still sitting here because I won,” the renowned manager pointed out. “Otherwise, it would be another person sitting here. Hopefully one day we can see each other again.”

As it stands, Manchester United will now be spearheaded by caretaker manager Michael Carrick when the club faces Villarreal and possibly also against Chelsea next weekend.
