The St. Peter’s Peacocks shocked the NCAA basketball world on Friday in their upset victory over Purdue. There were plenty of reactions to St. Peter’s huge March Madness win, but Skip Bayless had a very intriguing take on their performance. Bayless, who is known as an overly critical commentator, was actually impressed by the Peacocks.

“Just watched St. Peter's become the 1st ever 15 seed to make the Elite 8, beating 3 Purdue. YET: The Peacocks do not look like some lucky-hot Cinderella. No, I saw a good, tough, smart, confident, well-coached, hard-playing , clutch-shooting college basketball team. Well done.”

And Skip Bayless happens to be 100 percent correct in his statement. The Peacocks are not simply getting lucky. They played an extremely aggressive and intelligent brand of defense while making the correct decisions on offense.

St. Peter’s is not the most talented team in the tournament. But the 15-seeded Peacocks have found ways to win despite their gargantuan competition. They have also not only displayed some of the best coaching and  so far in March Madness, but they have demonstrated the most heart and desire.

The Peacocks will play next in the Elite Eight. They will likely be underdogs against their opponent again but that has obviously not fazed them through the first three games of March Madness. St. Peter’s has already created history by becoming the first ever 15-seed to reach the Elite Eight. So anything else they accomplish at this point is icing on the cake.

But make no mistake about it, this is a hungry St. Peter’s squad that has intentions of winning the entire tournament.
