New Dallas Mavericks point guard Delon Wright vows to help the Mavs fix their rebounding woes next season.

Wright told Eddie Sefko of Mavs.com that he is aware of the Mavericks' struggles in rebounding over the past several seasons. In 2018, Dallas ended up 27th in the league in rebounding with 41.3 boards per game. They improved a bit last season, tallying 45.3 rebounds — good for 16th in the league.

The 27-year-old said that it will change a lot in 2019-20. While he is playing the point, the former Utah Utes standout insisted that he loves going for the ball, including chasing offensive boards. He revealed that he did not get the chance to do it in his first four seasons in the league, but he claims he has the green light to do it in Dallas.

“My brother tells me that the better you rebound, the better you will be able to play because you get the ball in your hand and you can push it and make plays,” Wright said. ” With certain teams, they don’t let me offensive rebound and that’s one of my strengths. Rick already said that he’s going to allow me to do that.”

The Mavs signed Wright to a three-year deal worth $29 million, which was completed through a sign-and-trade deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. He split the previous season between the Toronto Raptors and the Grizzlies. In 26 games with in Memphis, Wright posted 12.2 points on top of 5.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists.
