Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest Dallas Mavericks player of all time. Period. There's just no contesting that fact. This is exactly why Mark Cuban and the rest of the Mavs organization intend to provide the legend with the ultimate honor by retiring his jersey. As it turns out, this momentous occasion might come sooner rather than later.

According to Cuban himself, the Mavs are looking at the possibility of retiring Dirk's No. 41 jersey this year (h/t Callie Caplan of Dallas Morning News):

Nowitzki has been enjoying life in retirement, and as Cuban said, the 43-year-old has been traveling quite a bit. The Mavs will need to adjust to Dirk's busy schedule as they look to offer him the ultimate honor any franchise can give to one of its former players. That's definitely going to be a historic moment for the Mavs, and I'm certain that Dallas fans everywhere will be marking their calendars once that date is finalized.

Cuban and Co. did not stop there, though. The Mavs are also erecting a statue in his honor, which is only fitting for a legend like Dirk Nowitzki.

There are only a few months remaining before the calendar turns to 2022, so if Cuban's plans come to fruition, then Dirk's jersey should be hanging in the American Airlines Center in the near future.
