Even though the Dallas Mavericks failed to progress to the second round in this year's playoffs, there is no doubt that Luka Doncic has further established his status as an elite player in the NBA. So much so, that even Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki believes that Luka has already surpassed him as the greatest Dallas player of all time.
The cameras of TMZ Sports recently caught up with Dirk. When asked to give his thoughts on what Doncic has to do to become the Mavs GOAT, Nowitzki simply said that “he already has”:
Nowitzki has always been one of the most humble players in the game. The fact that he so unhesitatingly declared Doncic as the Mavs GOAT serves as a clear testament to this fact.
There's no denying that Doncic has reached unprecedented heights at such a young age. However, to say that he is now the greatest Dallas Mavericks player of all time is certainly a bold claim. He'll probably get there one day, but isn't it a tad early to make this claim?
Then again, it's Dirk himself who made this statement. The former league MVP is widely considered as the Mavs GOAT, and it looks like he just passed his title to Luka with his bold claim here. Does this make it official then? It seems that Dirk seems to think so, so perhaps we should all follow suit?
It will definitely be interesting to see what Luka himself will have to say about this.
