Long before the likes of Kristaps Porzingis and Karl-Anthony Towns jacked up their first 3-point shots in the NBA, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was the one who’s blowing everyone’s mind for having such a deadly touch from deep despite his 7-foot frame.

The Mavs icon made it fashionable for 7-footers to shoot threes and has been an influential figure in facilitating the big shift towards the way basketball is being played today.

Now in his 19th season in the NBA, Dirk Nowitzki continues to cement his legacy as the best 3-point shooting big man in the history of the league.

Nowitzki further solidified his claim to that when he went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in the Mavs’ 112-110 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. By doing so, the 39-year-old displaced Rashard Lewis for the 13th spot in the NBA’s all-time 3-pointers made with 1,789 long bombs.

Dirk Nowitzki has nine 3-pointers made on the season on 37.5 percent shooting and needs only 38 more to tie Kobe Bryant for 12th on the list.

Nowitzki will look to continue his ascent on the list this Monday when the Mavs visit the Utah Jazz.
